Questions, answered
What does “ula” mean?
In Old Turkic, “ula-” means to join or reach. In the app, it’s what happens when two people in the same venue connect: you send an approach request, and we ula for you, once we’ve checked you’re both really there.
How does Ula know I’m really at the venue?
When you scan the venue’s QR code, our servers check that the code is valid and that your phone’s location is within 100 metres of the venue. The check happens on our side, not on your phone, so the app can’t decide for itself.
Can people see where I am?
No. Other people only see that you’re checked in at the same venue. Your exact location is never shown, and Ula doesn’t track you in the background.
When do people see my Instagram or phone number?
Only after one of you approaches the other and they accept. Until you both say yes, your socials and contact details stay masked.
What happens when I leave?
Your check-in lasts 60 minutes. When it ends you leave the live room, and you can’t see or approach anyone there until you check in again.
